Are Grains Necessary?

Be it sugar or whole grains, carbohydrates are not an essential macronutrient like fat and protein. The liver is readily able to recycle protein into any necessary glucose—this process is a normal function of the body's regeneration mechanisms. Proteins get recycled this way as tissues build, rebuild, and repair. The goal is not to short-circuit this process by eating carbs, but to support it by eating enough protein.
